Word Counter
Count words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in real time, with reading- and speaking-time estimates. Word and character counting is Unicode-aware — emoji count as one character each, and languages without spaces between words (like Chinese and Japanese) are segmented correctly.

FAQ
- How is the character count different from just checking the text length?
- It counts what a person actually sees as one character — a grapheme cluster — using the browser's Intl.Segmenter. A family emoji or an accented character built from multiple Unicode code points still counts as one character, unlike a raw string-length check, which would count several.
- Does word counting work for languages without spaces, like Chinese or Japanese?
- Yes — word segmentation uses the same Intl.Segmenter API in word mode, which understands real word boundaries in those languages rather than relying on whitespace, so the count isn't zero or wildly wrong for text like that.
- How accurate is the sentence count?
- It's a practical approximation based on splitting on ., !, and ? followed by whitespace — genuinely useful for most writing, but it can overcount for abbreviations like "Dr." or "e.g." since there's no reliable way to distinguish those from a sentence end without a full language model.
- Is my text sent anywhere?
- No — every statistic is computed locally as you type. Nothing is transmitted or stored.
